Less substance, more filler.

Visual Studio .NET 2005

December 20th, 2005 Posted in Rants, Technology

I’ve started to use the newest Visual Studio .NET at work, and my first impression was it was actually quite polished. Then I started to do honest to goodness work with it.

We’re developing a newer version of a Pocket PC app that we currently have that uses a database. We wanted to go with the new SQL Server Mobile. I have to tell you guys, that thing is the slowest most horribly thought out piece of software. It will not talk to our other desktop database, a SQL Server Express database AT ALL. In order to talk to the full SQL Server it needs to have a web server installed. There is no other way to write to the handheld database from the desktop. None.

Needless to say, we won’t be replacing Visual Studio .NET 2003 with it any time soon.
