Microsoft vows to kill Google
September 5th, 2005 Posted in Rants, TechnologyI’m sure everyone who follows tech news has heard that Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, vowed to “kill Google.” Whats funny to me is how the Microsoft fanboys come out and say that he’s simply being “competative.” Like my favorite, Paul Thurrott.
So basically a dude was quitting Microsoft to go over to Google and Ballmer had a hissyfit and threw a chair. Sounds pretty childish right? Well Paul thinks:
I just have one question. So what? Every single Microsoft shareholder should expect–no, demand–that their CEO act in this manner toward all competition, antitrust issues or not. Ballmer should want to kill Google, should do everything in his power to displace that company.
Excuse me? If I were a shareholder I think the CEO freaking out and throwing a chair would throw up red flags. That shows desperation, not “competative nature.” I have a better idea, how about Microsoft release a piece of software that doesn’t suck first? Windows XP is a hack job at best, Visual Studio .NET has a lot going for it, if it only weren’t a bogged down, buggy piece of shit, and Office hasn’t been a decent product since Office 97. Office for the Mac and Virtual PC are probably the only two remaining decent products the company makes in my eyes. Its time for them to step down and let another company monopolize I think.
